OTS updated for the 2020 Tax-Year:
Each package contains US 1040 Fed taxes, Scheds 1-3, A-D, and forms 6251, 8949, & 8889 updated for the 2020 tax-year.
Also includes updated State-Tax versions for OH, NC, NJ, NY, VA, PA, MA, and CA.
Each package includes pre-compiled executables for the given platform, as well as
source-code and build-scripts in case re-compiling is ever needed.
For Linux - July 28, 2021
OpenTaxSolver2020_18.08_linux32.tgz (6.4-MB) (For older systems.)
OpenTaxSolver2020_18.08_linux64.tgz (6.4-MB) <-- You most likely need this one.
- Package is a gzip'd tar-file. To unpack, tar xfz OpenTaxSolver2020_18.08_linux64.tgz
- Unpacks into a directory of similar name.
- Start by double-clicking or running: ./Run_taxsolve_GUI .
For MS-Windows - July 28, 2021
- Same as above, but zip or 7z formats for easier unpacking on MS-Windows:

- Contains compiled binary executables for MS-Windows PCs, with source-code.
- Start by double-clicking: Run_taxsolve_GUI

For Apple Mac-OSx - July 28, 2021
- Same as above, but contains executables for Apple Mac-OSX:

- Double-click on package to unpack. Navigate to top directory inside.
- Start by clicking: Run_taxsolve_GUI
(The first time, you may need to hold down your control-key while clicking on Run_taxsolve_GUI.
Then click Open in the menu and then in the small window. Or run from terminal window.)
For increased security, you can authenticate the contents of your downloaded package by checking the sha1sum.
See the correct sha1sum for each package by hovering over it above.
(A convenient GUI for checking your sha1sum on all platforms is GtkHash.)

v18.08 (4/22/2021) - On Fed-1040 PDF forms, now displays Dependent-Relationship column.
On NJ State form, adjustments were made for eligibility of Homestead
rebate Property Tax credit when over 65 or blind, and under the income
threshold to file. Fixes to NY State and 1040 Schedule-C Business Forms.
v18.07 (3/31/2021) - GUI now detects Hi-DPI screens and enlarges window.
Fixed file-browser to prevent crash on some MacOS machines.
Adjusted Federal 1040 Social Security Worksheet calculation
to not include the new Unemployment Compensation Exclusion (UCE)
recorded as a negative value on Schedule-1 Line-8.
v18.06 (3/18/2021) - Added Fed-1040 Schedule-SE for Self-Employment taxes
(part-I) which can be accessed in GUI under Other-Forms.
For Fed-1040, improved Virtual-Currency comment/prompt language
in template file.
Added adjustment to Social Security calculations for Charity deductions when not itemizing.
v18.05 (3/5/2021) - For Fed-1040, added ability to specify Dependents information
for PDF form output. (Does not affect any calculations.)
On North Carolina state form, fixed comments on lines 7+9, now
fills Use-Tax check-box when appropriate, and fixed Refund line 34.
Fixed NY State Form Date-of-Birth format in PDF printouts.
v18.04 (2/27/2021) - Added Form 8606 under the 'Other' category.

v18.03 (2/19/2021) - Added option to calculate taxes in whole dollars.
(Select under the GUI's 'Options' button,
or use run-time option '-round_to_whole_dollars'.)
Added updated NY State taxes.
Fixed California CA540 lines A5 through A7, SocSec payments.
Now overly long comments are truncated on form 8949 PDF output.
Tax-bracket information reporting was fixed on Fed-1040.
v18.02 (2/11/2021) - Additional validation was added to test that numeric
entries are valid numbers for all forms.
For the Fed 1040:
The Social Security worksheet lines 3+6 calculations were fixed.
The circular dependency introduced in this year's taxes on Schedule-A
and 1040 Lines 10b, 10c, and 11 -- which affects the itemization
decision and amounts -- was addressed and cleaned up.
A check-box option was added on Fed 1040 Schedule-A (line-18) to
elect to itemize, even when less than standard deduction.
Fixed comment on Massachusetts template line 15.
A beta-version version of the updated California taxes was added.
v18.01 (2/5/2021) - On Fed 1040, fixed line 10c sign, and updates to the new separated Town/State/zip form-entries.
v18.00 (1/28/2021) - Initial beta release for 2020 tax-year.
Does not include the 8889, CA and NY programs because their form instructions have not been published
by this release packaging date.
